Melanie Voight holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Texas Lutheran College), a Master of Music in Music Education (Ithaca College) (both including teaching certificates for teaching in public schools), and a PhD in Music Education (University of Texas at Austin). She has trained in Orff Music Therapy under Gertrud Orff at the Kinderzentrum München and achieved approbation as a child and youth psychotherapist. She has been a certified music therapist (DMtG) since 2012, and head of the music therapy department at the Kinderzentrum München in Munich Germany from 1984 to 2016. Her areas of practice include music therapy with children and youth with developmental disorders at the kbo-Kinderzentrum München. Melanie is a lecturer for developmental music therapy according to Gertrud Orff within the emphasis of Music Therapy for students of social work, University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (2008-present); Co-coordinator and lecturer within the Master’s Program, Music Therapy for Persons with Handicaps and Dementia at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (2010-2018). In 2021 she has commenced lecturing within the new Master Music Therapy for Empowerment and Inclusion at the University of Applied Sciences, Würzburg-Schweinfurt. Melanie has also served as Secretary within the General European Music Therapy Confederation (EMTC) since 2016.
