Dr Kendrea L. (Focht) Garand (PhD, CScD, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, CBIS)is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at the University of South Alabama. She is the Founder and Director of the Swallowing Disorders Initiative Research Laboratory. Her primary clinical and research interests include management of dysphagia in patients with neurodegenerative disease, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Current and past research funding includes Veterans Affairs, ASHFoundation, and University of South Alabama. Dr. (Focht) Garand’s previous works include publications in Dysphagia, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Muscle and Nerve. She currently serves as Editor of Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups, Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia) (SIG 13). She has presented both at the national and international levels, including numerous proceedings at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the Dysphagia Research Society.
