Ethics


The Australian Music Therapy Association is very aware that music therapy is an allied health profession and as such both it and its members must operate to the very highest standards.  The Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice and By-laws for Grievance Procedures are core documents that all members are required to adhere to.

The Code of Ethics includes:

  • General principles
  • Ethical responsibilities to the client
  • Ethical responsibilities in research
  • Ethical responsibilities in education and training
  • Ethical responsibilities to colleagues and the wider community
  • Ethical responsibilities for professional and personal development
  • Infringements of the Code of Ethics and/or the Standards of Practice

  • Evaluation
  • Documentation
  • Termination

The By-laws for Grievance Procedures includes:

  • Terminology
  • Preamble
  • Formal grievance procedure
  • The role of the Grievance Committee
  • Hearing of the complaint
  • Hearing procedure
  • Penalties
  • Consideration of the Grievance Committee report
  • Request for an appeal
  • Appeals procedure
