Dementia Symposium 2003: Ethics and the Journey of Dementia

The 2003 NSW Dementia Symposium, will focus on the complex ethical issues which arise throughout the journey of dementia. The ethical underpinnings of dementia care and quality of life will be discussed, and the many dilemmas faced during the progression of dementia from early diagnosis, through to late dementia and palliative care will be explored. The Symposium will be statewide in scope and will help guide policy and practice in dementia care. It will highlight the need to carefully consider the basis of decision making, the ethical implications and the practical consequences of decisions for the person with dementia, the carer and family, and dementia care professionals and services, policy makers and society as a whole.

Workshops and plenary sessions will be held with participation from delegates, drawn from the ranks of dementia care professionals, academics, family carers, planners, policy makers and service providers. The Symposium will seek to identify specific issues related to the theme for ongoing advocacy and policy development, as well as needs for increased resource support in dementia care.

To register your interest, please email krennie@alznsw.asn.au or return the expression of interest form (pdf) by fax to 02 9805 1665. A registration form will be available in July.
