ALERT FOR STUDENTS: The council of the World Federation of Music Therapy is seeking a student delegate for our region. Please submit an expression of interest immediately to Anja Tait, WFMT Regional Liaison for Australia/New Zealand: australianewzealand@wfmt.info. The WFMT council actively promotes student involvement in the World Federation of Music Therapy. Follow the links to two current initiatives:

  • Window to the World, where music therapy students around the world have the opportunity to share their current projects.
  • Connection aims to connect students around the world – find a music therapy peer in any country you wish and learn how their culture influences their music and interventions.

Music Therapy World Congress 2011: Seoul, Korea

Plan to be in Korea in July 2011. See the Website for the 13th World Congress of Music Therapy. Submitted abstracts have now been reviewed, selected contributors have been advised, and a draft program is being prepared. The Scientific Committee reports that there were a high number of submissions, and anticipate a stimulating world congress around the theme, Music Therapy in Eastern & Western Philosophies. Go to the congress website now and register at early bird rates.

WFMT Publication Centre

The World Federation of Music Therapy has launched the WFMT Publication Centre . The purpose of the WFMT Publication Centre is to:

  • improve access to knowledge and information about music therapy worldwide, and
  • distribute current knowledge and information about music therapy education, clinical practice, and research worldwide

The first step is to provide continued access to the rich archive of music therapy world, which includes back issues of the online journal Music Therapy Today, a structured review and database, an archive of conference reports, dissertations, videos, CDs, and books on music therapy, and the previous pages of WFMT and EMTC. Go to the link now, and see the rich resource of music therapy materials available.


Australia/New Zealand regional blog

Our regional blog on the WFMT website provides a forum for Australian and New Zealand music therapists to profile education, clinical practice and research initiatives to the international music therapy community. A brief introduction to the World Federation of Music Therapy

In August 2008, Anja Tait (RMT) from the Northern Territory, was appointed Regional Liaison for Australia/New Zealand by the council of the World Federation of Music Therapy (WFMT) for a three-year term, until 2011.

The World Federation of Music Therapy provides an opportunity to promote innovative professional exchanges. It is a chance to learn and celebrate throughout the world, the consonance and dissonance of our values, understandings and practices in music therapy.
The World Federation of Music Therapy (WFMT) is an international organization bringing together music therapy associations and individuals interested and active in developing and promoting music therapy globally through professional exchange, collaboration, and action. The Federations’ members are music therapy organizations, training programs, music therapists, and individuals associated with music therapy. WFMT is an international body, with officers, commissioners, and regional liaisons in Africa, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, India, Ireland, Korea, Spain, U.A.E., and the USA.

The World Federation currently includes the following six Commissions:

  1. Education and Training
  2. Clinical Practice
  3. Research and Ethics
  4. Global Crises Intervention
  5. Publications
